The Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) requires companies in the financial industry to disclose the sustainability characteristics and risks of their products and services. With our consulting approach, we support financial companies in meeting the increasing regulatory requirements.
The SFDR is a European Union regulation that came into force on March 10, 2021. The aim of the SFDR is to create transparency and comparability with regard to the sustainability of financial products. The regulation stipulates that financial institutions, asset managers and investment funds must disclose the ESG (environment, social, governance) criteria of their products.
The SFDR also requires financial institutions to classify their financial products into three categories: Products that have sustainability objectives ("Article 9, or dark green products"), products that do not have sustainability objectives ("Article 6, or non-sustainable products") and products that have sustainability features but do not have sustainability as an objective ("Article 8, or light green products"). The classification of products is intended to enable investors to distinguish between sustainable and non-sustainable products.
The SFDR also requires financial institutions to inform their customers about how sustainability aspects are incorporated into investment strategies and decisions. In addition, financial institutions must fulfill their transparency obligations through regular reporting.
The regulation obliges financial institutions based in the EU to disclose the sustainability characteristics and risks of their products and services. These disclosure obligations apply at both company and product level. The requirements come both from the regulatory side and from investors and customers, who are increasingly favoring sustainable investments and demanding corresponding information.
